We’ve spent ALOT of time in Florida over the last few years. It’s hard not to. Warm weather year-round, unlimited golf courses, and there’s tons of value to be found. But this Florida trip was different. This itinerary features the nicest hotels in Miami and some of the best public courses in the entire state. Let’s break it down:
Trump National Doral Miami - Blue Monster

Trump Doral - Blue Monster
The second you roll onto the property, you get why this place is famous. Massive clubhouse, perfectly manicured grounds, and a full “golf resort” feel. As we walked up the steps to check in we actually passed Micky Arison, the owner of the Miami heat. I think that speaks to the quality of the property when you have those kind of high profile people roaming around. Anyways, the first round was at Blue Monster and it was our most anticipated course of the trip. The course was exactly what everyone says it is — beautiful, long, and absolutely loaded with water. While the course is pretty flat, the greens are undulated and heavily protected by bunkers. You really can’t afford to hit bad shots here and expect to score well. It ate our lunch but in the best way. We couldn’t be mad while playing such a beautiful course. If you want a course that punches back, Blue Monster is it. Maybe not the best first “warm-up” course to start your trip on though.
Trump National Doral - Silver Fox

Trump Doral - Silver Fox
After the brutality of Blue Monster, this one let us catch out breath a little bit, but not entirely. It still had tight lines, tons of water framing tee shots, and tough pin placements. I think any course that is directly after Blue Monster is put in a tough position. We somewhat expected a “fall-off” in quality or enjoyment of the course, but it didn’t happen at all. Silver Fox really impressed us and there was no drop-off in good vibes. I think that’s just the product of a high-end resort like Doral. You can’t go wrong with any of the courses on the property.
Miami Lakes Golf Club

Miami Lakes
Miami Lakes brings a totally different vibe. It’s more local, more relaxed, and a classic Florida-style layout. This places’ conditioning was WAY better than we anticipated. Not that we anticipated anything bad, but it just underwent renovations and had some of the smoothest greens and cleanest fairways we’ve honestly played anywhere all year. It’s one of those courses that doesn’t need flash to be fun. Super playable, really enjoyable, play some music from the cart and have a perfect “reset” day in between resort rounds.
JW Marriott - Turnberry

JW Marriott - Turnberry
We wrapped things up at the JW Turnberry Resort & Spa, and the place was awesome. Great spot to end the trip on a high-note. Spacious rooms, more upscale dining and the golf here was… crazy. This is the first golf course I played in my entire life where we legitimately did not see another group out there. The only way you can play here is if you stay on property or if you’re a member. It’s technically a country club. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. There are two courses but we played the Soffer Course and we loved it. It’s hard to describe the scenery but it feels like you’re situated on a private island within a city. A ton of water, and green grass but also surrounded by the high-rises of the downtown area. One of those places where you finish 18 and immediately want to run it back.
